Today's challenge is not a lack of Food; it is about making Food always available to all who need it. Hunger kills more people yearly than AIDS, malaria, and terrorism combined. Every 10 seconds, a child dies of hunger every 10 seconds. 82% of hungry people live in countries with food surpluses, not food shortages. One in eight people sleeps hungry every night. One-third of the Food produced over the world is never eaten. There are 850 million hungry in the world.
To eradicate hunger in Rajasthan, the Jawahar Foundation, an NGO working for Food for the needy, has launched a community kitchen called Swabhiman Bhoj, which serves nutritious and clean meals for everyone at Rs 1. Currently operating in Ajmer, Banswara, Bhilwara, and Jaipur and have served nearly 200,000 meals in just nine months. This community kitchen is an ongoing activity and will soon be operational in other cities in Rajasthan.
To help those in need, Jawahar Foundation distributed food parcels to Covid patients and those in need in Ajmer and Bhilwara. So far, the Jawahar Foundation has distributed more than 22,000 food packages in the two cities.
Additionally, the Jawahar Foundation also distributed dry rations to needy day gamblers who lost their livelihoods during the Covid lockdown.
NGOs working towards donating food for the needy have objectives as follows:
